Guitarist Justin Lyons (Blackpink, Bobby Brown, Lil’ Wayne/Blink-182) isperforming at the upcoming VMAs, touring with major acts like Machine Gun Kelly and Blink-182/Lil’ Wayne, and cultivating his role as the go-to guitarist for K-pop—the “fastest-growing music market on the planet.”
The tour, includes a performance at the MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday, Sept. 12. The U.S. tour includes stops at Stubb’s BBQ in Austin (Sept. 30), Austin City Limits (Oct. 1, Oct. 8), Red Rocks Amphitheater in Colorado (Oct. 18), and Irving Music Factory in Dallas (Oct. 24)..
The domestic tour follows the August release of MGK’s latest LP Borns with Horns, produced by Blink-182’s Travis Barker. Lyons and Barker met on the Blink-182/Lil’ Wayne tour, and stayed in touch after the run ended. When it came to finding a guitarist for the MGK tour, Barker knew exactly who to call.
“I’m honored Travis reached out,” says Lyons, who’s performed with artists spanning every genre—from gospel, soul, and blues to K-pop and hip-hop. “I’m just excited to be back on the road with this new crew of people, and to be playing this unique style of music.”
For the last five years, Oak Cliff native and musician/producer Justin Lyons has been the guitarist for K-pop group Blackpink, one of the highest grossing female acts in the world. (Read: “The Internet Is Buzzing About Blackpink’s Guitarist”; “How K-Pop Came to Dominate the Music Scene”.)
Although his two-month tour with Machine Gun Kelly will be certainly different from Korean pop shows, fans can expect Lyons’ level of energy and excitement on stage—not to mention his signature style of shredding.
