Q. Who Are You?

A. Hello! I’m ALY-SLAY, multi-hyphenate R&B Singer-Songwriter. I love lighting up every room I walk into and inspiring others through music as a universal language that speaks when words can’t. I’m a ray of sunshine and perpetual optimist.

Q. Where Are You From?

A. I’m from Ohio. I spent 10 years after college in New York City building my career before moving to Los Angeles where I currently reside and have spent 10 years as well.

Q. Describe Your Genre’

A. My genre takes a lot of influences from Rhythm & Blues, though I also have a lengthy history in music studying and performing it from a young age and receiving my B.A. in Music. Other influences include Rap, Pop, AfroPop, and dance/EDM, all of which have been part of my life and cultural experiences.

Q. Who Are Your Musical Influences?

A. Whitney Houston, SWV, TLC, Aaliyah, Mariah Carey, Alicia Keys, Jay-Z

Q. What Inspires You To Write Music?

A. To change people’s lives through music. Music is a universal language that speaks where words can’t. My purpose is to inspire every room I walk in, inspire with every note I sing and write and to light the world on fire with joy, hope and peace.

Q. Title of your main single ?

A.

    “Don’t Play”

Q. When Do Your Creative Ideas Usually Come To You?

A. When I least expect them, and often the best ones come when I don’t have something in particular planned and I can just freestyle. For example, the most recent track I’ve been working on was inspired in the Carbone bathroom in Las Vegas – the ambience, environment and music playing, and working out of the studio where I was with my late mentor (R.I.P.).

Q. What are some of your past projects & how did they benefit you?

A. I worked on a single called “I’m a Big Girl” featuring Kevin McCall originally written as a birthday track from a songwriting request. It’s become a mantra for young women to know they matter and that they have value growing up in this world.

Q. Which one of YOUR songs is YOUR favorite & why?

A. As of the time of this interview, it’s currently unreleased and it’s called “Be With You.” I wrote it and recorded it in the very studio where my late music mentor worked with me during a songwriting camp, sitting at the very table we were at before he passed. I felt his presence the entire time I was recording and just leaned in to what he would have me do. I still cry every time I listen back to it as it has become part of my grieving and healing journey and I know it’s going to be the same for a lot of people who knew this very special person like “I’ll Be Missing You” for this generation.

Q. Where Do You See Yourself In 5 Years?

A. I’m going to be on multi international tours, playing large stadiums around the world, and ultimately, Super Bowl.

Q. What’s your favorite restaurant & Why?

A. Carbone Las Vegas

The ambience is so rich, the food is so amazing (you must try the beef carpaccio, it’s probably my favorite of all time), and the environment is everything. Some of the best memories, business deals, and now my newest song has been inspired from this venue. I mean even other rappers have included “can’t get a reservation up in Carbone” in their lyrics.

Q. Things you like to do for fun ?

A. I am always working and music is my fun. When I’m not recording, writing, doing appearances or events, I really love a nice brunch with friends, a bike ride by the beach, traveling and a good shopping spree.

Q. What’s your favorite movie ?

A. Love & Basketball
