Q. You’re widely known as the man who makes stars. What do you think sets you apart in how you spot and elevate talent?

Answer:

. “I’ve always believed talent can come from anywhere, but excellence comes from structure. What sets me apart is that I don’t just promote talent—I build systems around them. Merqury Republic and The Ghana DJ Awards, are my platforms, my network… they all work together to take talent from a local level to global visibility.”

Q. The Ghana DJ Awards has become the most consistent platform for DJs in Africa. What inspired you to start it, and what keeps you motivated each year?

Answer:

“I wanted DJs to be recognized as the heartbeat of music culture. They move the crowd, break new songs, influence the industry—but weren’t getting their flowers. The motivation comes from seeing DJs rise after winning. Some get major bookings, brand deals, and international visibility. That impact keeps me going.”

Q. People say winning a Ghana DJ Award can change an artist’s or DJ’s entire career. What is it about the award that holds so much influence?

Answer:

“The credibility. The industry knows our standard is very high. When you win, promoters trust you, brands take you seriously, and fans pay attention. We don’t just award—you automatically enter our booking and publicity ecosystem. It’s a launchpad, not just a trophy.”

Q. Over the years, many talents you’ve championed have become household names. What does talent development mean to you personally?

Answer:

“It means legacy. It means impact. Anyone can enjoy the shine today, but being part of someone else’s journey—that’s eternal. Seeing someone grow from unknown to celebrated because of a platform I created… that’s the real reward.”

Q. You have helped push countless Ghanaian DJs onto global platforms. Is international expansion a big priority for you right now?

Answer:

“Absolutely. I am open to being booked in Europe, the US, South Africa, the Caribbean—everywhere. My goal is to build partnerships and tour internationally. The world needs to experience our sound and our energy. I know once my brand can reach the masses, then it will also open doors for other DJs”

Q. What does the global DJ landscape look like for Ghana? Are promoters abroad paying attention yet?

Answer:

“They are beginning to, Azonto opened doors, Afrobeats increased demand, and DJs are becoming cultural ambassadors. Promoters abroad now request African DJs who understand our rhythms. My mission is to make Ghana the biggest exporter of DJ talent in the world!”

Q. You’ve built one of the most influential entertainment brands in Ghana. What has been your biggest challenge—and biggest success?

Answer:

“My biggest challenge has been doing big things with limited resources. But the biggest success is seeing Ghana DJ Awards become not just a show, but a movement. The respect it commands across Africa today… that’s priceless.”

Q. What plans are you putting in place to take the Ghana DJ Awards global?

Answer:

“We are working on pop-up editions in other countries and partnering with international events. The vision is to make it the biggest DJ movement in Africa—touring cities abroad, spotlighting talent, and exporting Ghanaian DJs.”

Q. Many young DJs look up to you as a mentor. What advice would you give to DJs who want to reach international stages?

Answer:

“Build your identity. The world doesn’t need another copy—they want something original. Also, professionalism will take you farther than raw talent. And finally, use platforms like Ghana DJ Awards. When the ecosystem recognizes you, doors open faster.”

Q. If someone abroad asks, ‘Why should we book a Ghanaian DJ?’—how would you answer?

Answer:

“I’d tell them Ghanaian DJs are masters of blending culture, rhythm, and energy. We don’t just play music; we create experiences. If you want a crowd to dance, connect, and remember the night—book a Ghanaian DJ.”

Q. What’s next for Merqury Quaye—the brand, the movement, and the mission?

Answer:

“Global expansion. New partnerships. More platforms to elevate talent. My mission is simple: make stars and push Ghanaian creativity onto the world stage. And we’ve only just begun.”
